       Welcome to The full coverage of the Osun governorship rerun election. We are here today as a result of the inconclusive election of Saturday.
Ademola Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, had polled 254,698 votes while Isiaka Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had 254,345 votes, leaving a margin of 353. This was insufficient to declare a winner, hence the rerun.

2:20 PM - (VIDEO) - APC thugs did not allow us vote - Osun voters with PVC cry out
Widespread reports of  several 'PDP voters' being prevented and restricted from voting by political thugs loyal to APC has filled the air.

The Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has described the ongoing rerun election in seven units in the state as a ‘coup ‘.

“What is happening in Osun State now is not an election. What we have is a coup. That is what we are witnessing now.

“Our supporters are being harassed and are not allowed to vote at all. Let the whole world know that this is not the democracy, ” he said.

1:20 PM - At PU 017, ward 05, Osogbo LGA. A Man accused of voting buying has been arrested by security agents. He was found with N20,600 in the pocket of an inner jeans short.

1:15 PM - At PU 012, ward 07, Ife South LGA, voters maintained over 100 metres away from the polling station anticipating the results of the #OsunRerun. Total registered voters here is 812.

1:05 PM - Thugs screening voters before they are allowed to visit polling units. Anyone without a white handkerchief distributed to members of a major party yesterday are beaten and sent back, while their PVCs are confiscated.

1:00 PM - Journalists have been sent away from the polling units in Kajola, Idiya and Gbogbo just before the commencement of vote-counting.

12:55 PM - VOTE BUYING
At Olode village ward 7 unit 12 residents go to a building where they put down their names signifying interest to vote for the APC, after which they get N10,000 as agreement fee.

After voting they come back with a sign that they have voted and receive N20,000 - N30,000 balance payment. The perimeter is guided by hoodlums

12:50 PM - Commotion in Osogbo unit over gunshots
There was commotion at Unit 17, Ward 5 in Osogbo where a rerun election is taking place.

Everything was calm until about 11.50 am when gunshots rang out. The sounds came from behind a building near the polling unit, but a policeman said the gunshots came from across the road.
It started with what sounded like fireworks.
As more shots rang out, voters on queue, electoral observers and journalists scampered for safety.
The Police shot into the air in response and everyone around took cover under roofs and behind buildings.
The Police said they were on the alert and that the shots may have been fired by thugs trying to gain access to the unit.

12:22 PM - Thugs reportedly take over Kajola polling unit
Thugs reportedly take over Kajola polling unit as security operatives watch without assisting voters. Reporters were warned against making video recordings, after which their movements were monitored.

12:19 PM - Kajola Village residents allege intimidation
Many residents of Ifon who said that they were registered voters at Gbogbo Primary School and in Kajola Village have alleged that they were turned back from assessing their polling units by alleged APC thugs.

One of them who identified herself as Ramota Ibrahim, said they were chased away from the polling unit at Kajola.

12:14 PM - Ife South – The PDP party agent is absent.
INEC supervisor in Polling Unit 012 Olode Ward 07 in Ife-south LG, Stephen Ojewale, said that INEC is not to be held responsible as the PDP agent is yet to arrive the centre.

12:11 PM - Thugs in charge in Orolu
Despite the presence of scores of security personnel at Polling Unit one, Ward eight in Orolu Local Government Area, thugs are in control of the unit

Apart from threatening journalists, the thugs who are the first point of call at the polling unit screen whoever will enter to vote.

12:05 PM - Dominik Williams, political counsellor, British High Commission, says he observed the heavy presence of security agents at Ward 07, PU 012 in Adereti village, Ife South LGA.

11:58 AM - Vote Buying
Money-sharing openly done in Olode village. The polling unit is just by the road. After voting, they go into one of the mud buildings close to the polling unit or under a tree to collect money.

11:45 AM - 'Coup', not election ongoing in Osun - Adeleke
The Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has described the ongoing rerun election in seven units in the state as a ‘coup ‘.

Adeleke, who spoke with newsmen on the telephone, said that supporters of the PDP were being denied access to ballot papers in the governorship rerun election.

11:35 AM - Scores of registered voters in Orolu local govt are protesting after their PVCs were seized by gun-wielding thugs and they were sent away.
One of the voters who chose to remain anonymous for fear of attack said there is no election in Orolu LG.
The voter said: "There is no credible election here in Orolu. The thugs working for APC that they imported from Ikire came to our villages yesterday and sent us out. They know Orolu is the stronghold of the PDP. We took refuge in the palace of Olufon. Now, those of us in the opposition are not allowed to vote. My PVC is with them."

11:30 AM - Thugs assume role of security operatives
At Kajola Community Primary School, where Ward 8, Unit 1 is located, scores of suspected thugs are providing security for INEC officials.

11:25 AM - Journalists have been prevented from entering Gbogbo Ward 9, Unit 3 despite providing valid identification. Political thugs and security operatives sent them away

11:21 AM - Political thugs attempt to stop voters 
At Kajola Ward 8, Unit 1, some voters were prevented from casting their votes. One of the voters who identified himself as Kazeem says his voter card was seized by thugs and he was sent back home.

11:10 AM - Scores of voters standing in cue at PU 12 ward 7 of Adereti Village of Ife South LGA, Osun State.

10:50 AM - In Olode, security men blocked vehicles from going through the village until around 10.30am. It resulted in a long queue with some commuters alighting from their vehicles to trek to the other side of the road where they boarded other vehicles to continue with their journey. The road through the village leads to other Ife villages, Ondo, Ore and other areas.

10:30 AM - Determined Osun voters queue despite heavy rainfall

  At polling unit 17, Ward 5, Alekuwodo, Osogbo, a downpour had earlier threatened to halt the process but voters who initially ran for cover quickly returned when they noticed that others who refused to take cover had taken their spots on the queue.

By the time the rain subsided, all the voters on the queue were drenched.

10:25 AM - Observers restricted from gaining access to polling units in Orolu LGA: 
 


Many observers have complained of being denied access to Ifon polling units in Orolu LGA by security operatives.

Rukayat Ahmodu, an observer for CLEEN foundation was turned back by police and other security agencies from entering Orolu.

“We got there at 6:30am, they took us to the police station and later brought us to a junction. They said we are not allowed inside the centres,” Ms Ahmodu said.

10:20 AM - OSUN REC WARNS POTENTIAL BALLOT SNATCHERS!

Olusegun Agbaje, Osun resident electoral commissioner, has assured voters that nobody can disrupt the ongoing election.

He said: "We have heavy security presence which will guarantee the safety of everyone. Anybody coming to snatch ballot boxes is putting his or her life in danger."

9:58 AM - According to our reporter on ground, many voters are now scared to head to polling units over fear of being attacked by hoodlums.
Despite the rain and harassment by hoodlums, voting is ongoing in some polling units.

9:34 AM - Observers going to Orolu to cover the election arrested by policemen and later released with an instruction that they should go back. DIG said it was not part of the instructions given to the policemen.

9:30 AM - FRESH REMINDER: According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), 3,498 votes cancelled across seven polling units in four local government areas are up for contention in today's rerun.

9:16 AM - Osogbo LGA – A 50-year-old woman, Romoke Lukman, was caught as she tried to vote with PVC of another unit at PU 17, Ward 5. She said she was called by someone to come and vote. This is the second person caught trying to vote in the unit with PVCs from other units. She was questioned by security operatives who let her go after she apologised profusely.

9:06 AM -  Aged people given preference at PU 17, ward 5 but voting cubicle is not secluded to ensure voter secrecy as INEC promised.

8:46 AM -  Voters, at รŒdรฌmรบ area of Ifแปn-Orolu, are unable to visit the three polling units in Orolu LG. Hoodlums are said to be turning back voters.

8:41 AM -  Ife South LGA: At Olode Ward 7, PU 12, voting is in progress. There is presence of heavily armed security operatives. The security personnel comprise men of the Nigerian Police Force, FRSC, NSCDC, DSS.

8:35 AM -  Iyiola Omisore, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who came third in Saturday's general state polls will be supporting APC

8:30 AM - The inconclusive election held Saturday, Ademola Adeleke of the PDP scored 254,698 votes to beat his APC rival, Gboyega Oyetola, who polled 254,345 votes. The PDP thus holds a narrow lead of 353 votes over the APC.


The electoral commission however declared the election inconclusive because the margin between the two leading parties, PDP and APC, is less than the number of cancelled votes (3,498) in seven polling units where results was cancelled across four local governments.

The Returning Officer, Joseph Fuwape, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, while declaring the final results, said he could not “fairly” return Ademola Adeleke as the winner because of the provisions of the law regarding cancelled votes.

Subsequently, INEC picked Thursday to hold the rerun in the following polling units:

– Ife North, Ward 10, PU2

– Ife South, Olode Ward 07, PU12, Adereti Village

– Ife South Osi Ward 8 PU10, Aluti Erin Primary School, Albert village

– Orolu Ward 08 PU001, Kajola village

– Orolu Ward 08 PU004 Idi Iya village

– Orolu Ward 09 PU 003 Gbogbo Primary School Adeleke

– Osogbo Ataoja Ward 05 PU 017 Adewale Street.
