THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government reached its crescendo, Saturday July 22, 2017 when the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship candidate, Hon. Fatai Adekunle Ayoola confronted Hon. Rita Orji, the Federal lawmaker, representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun constituency 2, during a press briefing.
The incident which occur in the Wilmer/ Alakoto area of Ajeromi-Ifeloifdun Local Government Area arose due to allegation by Hon. Rita Orji who claimed the APC were harassing electorates from exercising their civic duties. It was in the middle of her press briefing that Hon. Fatai Adekunle Ayoola arrived at the venue. His words were sharp and direct: “You are a lawbreaker not a lawmaker. “What you are doing is against the electoral laws, you are not supposed to move about with security details, you are supposed to vote and go back to your house.”
Thereafter, the APC candidate walked away into his car and sped off.
Our investigation in other wards inside, Alayabiagba, Okorogbo, Raliatu, Iyalode and Ijaye Street, shows that the election was peaceful as voters exercised their franchise, although with some hitches at Sanusi Street in Ward B, where the case of ballot box being hijacked was reported.
According to an eye witness, John, a PDP agent, he said: “I am not going to sign to this result, the election is a sham.” While in the same vein, a source who pleaded anonymity said the polling unit on Sanusi Street was hijacked by a high powered PDP agent, as ballot boxes were reportedly held hostage at a popular PDP stalwart house.
